CDL Refresher Course of a California or Nevada CDL

Class A CDL Refresher & Recertification Courses

The Commercial Driver – 3 Week Refresher Course is specifically for students who already have a California or Nevada CDL permit and current DOT medical card. Each course is offered at the Visalia, Fresno, Merced, Bakersfield, and Las Vegas campuses. Click on any of the links below for more information on each program.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER – 3-WEEK CDL Refresher Course

The Commercial Driver 3-Week course is a behind-the-wheel-only course for students who already possess a California or Nevada CDL permit and have little to no experience behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle. This course prepares students to take their behind-the-wheel CDL exam.

How Long is the Program?

The 3 Week CDL Refresher Course will take 120 hours (3 weeks) to complete. Find the class time that best fits your schedule best.

All locations have the same class times:
Daytime classes: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Evening classes: 4:30 PM – 9:00 PM

COMMERCIAL DRIVER – 2 WEEK CDL Refresher Course

The 2 Week Commercial Driver course is no longer offered at Advanced Career Institute.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER – 1 WEEK CDL Refresher Course

The 1 Week Commercial Driver course is no longer offered at Advanced Career Institute.

This course is customized for each individual based on their current skill level and need. Training consists of lab, range and/or on the road experience, and focuses specifically on the behind the wheel activities of operating a commercial vehicle safely. Topics covered are safe operating procedures and advanced operating procedures to pre-trip/air brake testing and the execution of all behind the wheel DMV-required skills.
This program is behind the wheel only. Students will already have a permit when they enroll in this course. Students must pass the behind-the-wheel driving exams with the DMV to pass this course.
Program costs for the transportation programs covers all classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction necessary to take the written & behind-the-wheel exams at the DMV.

Drug Screen, DOT Physical, and Class A permit with endorsements are non-refundable charges and are included in tuition. All Re-test fees will be the student’s responsibility.

As a nationally accredited institution, we are authorized to offer various financial aid programs to those who qualify, though Financial Aid is not available for all of our programs. Our Financial Aid staff will work with you to determine your eligibility, and complete the application process.

This refresher course is for students who already have a California or Nevada CDL permit and current DOT medical card. Students may be required to complete a behind-the-wheel road evaluation through ACI prior to enrollment in order to demonstrate their current skill level.

Admission to ACI and the Commercial 3-Week program includes:

    -- Must be at least 18 years of age. (The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requires that all interstate drivers be at least 21 years of age. Applicants less than 21 years of age must provide a letter of intent to hire from a prospective employer.)
    -- Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
    -- Must provide a driving record free of current serious violations
    -- Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical as required by Federal & State agencies.
    -- Must be able to pass a drug screen when administered.
    -- No felony convictions in the past five (5) years. All criminal records are subject to review and may be required to provide a letter of intent to hire from a prospective employer.
Your Admissions Officer will cover any and all additional enrollment requirements for those who wish to enroll at ACI as a regular student, and will provide a list of items that must be completed prior to enrollment.
